Where is the next breath?

Its been nearly 365 days today since the storm came through. It came without warning and turmoil ensued. I imagined you’d be our shelter but just like a kid in a candy shop you scurried off to find comfort in a familiar flavour. Frightened by change you ran between the grey.

They warned me about days like this, except i’d always hoped they’d come before the scars started to mend, before the sound of your voice inserted so much fear it stilled my thoughts. I’d hoped you’d return with good reason or even a kind heart. But like an actor with a script you are predictable. Driven by loss and a desire to fill a void you created, you marched your way into my safe house only to stand and recite just what i knew would be the one thing that would bring you back.

I dared to hope.

The silence is so loud it has blurred the finish line. Voices of the past keep screaming, “Didn’t you promise not to steal my smile?”

I am running but iam still.

When does it end?

On days like this i wish so many things! I wish!
